Today is a day sacred to the Goddess Pallas Athene to the ancient Greeks (Minerva to the Romans). The asteroid belt is composed of thousands of asteroids believed at one time to be a planet that had a large impact that split it into all these asteroid parts. The four largest asteroids were named after the four main Goddesses of the Greek and/or Roman tradition: Ceres, Vesta, Juno, and Pallas. Astrologers started to study the energy of these archetypes in earnest in the 1970's and found profound meanings on their influence in the charts of clients. These four archetypes relate directly to the four main roles women/females take in the current familial model: Ceres, the mother; Vesta, the sister; Juno, the wife/partner; and Pallas, the daughter. In astrology, we have noted that outer planetary discoveries by astronomers coincide with the history of humanity at the time (ex: Pluto was discovered in 1930 as plutonium and the first atomic bombs were being tested/made as weapons of mass death and destuction. Pluto rules plutonium, death , mass destruction, war). These new deeper meanings of the female archetype arose in history at the time of the forefront of the women's liberation movement - so once again the "discovery" of these four main asteroids and their meaning in charts coincided with the history of the time: the equality of women and their ability to take on larger and deeper roles in traditional society. Putting these four asteroids into the chart can shed deeper meaning on your chart in relation to the female archetypes they represent, which encompasses much more than just your blood relations! For example, getting back to Pallas, who represents the daughter aspect of the female archetype: Pallas was one of the few chaste Goddesses, who was the daughter of Zeus, and was a female warrior (it was her shield that Perseus borrowed to help slay Medusa with). Like most daughters, she aimed to please her father and their close relationship was non-sexual (chaste) - it was based upon mental/intellectual energy. Thus, in the chart, Pallas represents those we connect with on mental/intellectual levels - those who we would go to battle with defending an idea/ideal. In another funny twist of fate when astronomers downgraded Pluto from planetary status to planetoid, due to their own scientific parameters, the largest of the four asteroids, Ceres, was upgraded to planetoid status too! Note how this reflects current history: Ceres, Mother Goddess, who takes care of earth's inhabitants by providing food, water, natural resources - all things currently under historical stress levels due to a burgeoning world population! Prior to that decision, I only placed the four major asteroids in the chart if a client and I were discussing deeper parts of the chart in relation to the female archetype. However, that decision tipped the scales for me and I started putting Ceres in every chart. I have been watching it closely and its effect on earth is incredible: many of the food shortages and riots in the world in the last few years coincide with hard aspects to Ceres. Currently, Ceres is square the nodal axis in eclipse season, thus being squared by the eclipses too, and look at all the large natural and man-made disasters stressing natural resources lately driving the prices of food, water, cotton, oil, etc up! Lately, I've been putting all four main asteroids in the chart after seeing how sensitive Ceres is. Right now, Pallas is retrograde in Aquarius trining a stationary Saturn in Libra: this would be an excellent time to forge deeper, more stable relationships with those you share ideals with and commit to using your talents concretely now to build a firm foundation/relationship/event/project/etc. If you are ever interested in a deeper reading into the effect of these four asteroids on your chart, I'm offering a mini (45 min approx) for $50 these days. Tuesday can be a frustrating/odd day as we close in on the Lunar Eclipse the next day. Mars is sesiquadrate Saturn, which can slow down actions to a complete standstill. Expect blockages in areas where you have responsibilities and duties like work. This could have you feeling quite angry inside and you could project that out and invite in accidents, breakdowns, slowdowns, mistakes, angry people, etc into your life. With Venus quincunx Pluto also, if you take it too far you could do some serious damage to relationships to the point of even possibly saying good-bye to someone. This is a good day to be cautious and slow in actions and to use any negative feelings to assess your own role rather than lashing out at others.
Wednesday is a Full Moon/Lunar Eclipse at 24* Gemini/Sagattarius. Full Moon's expose what is hidden and lunar eclipses can stir up deep things from within to the surface. The Sun is Gemini is very happy to flit to one thing and another that exists and fascinates on the surface/physical level. The Moon in Sagittarius yearns for something deeper with more meaning that one can really sink their teeth into and push the proverbial envelope to the edge to attain a much deeper sense of satisfaction and emotional well being then what is offered in physical/sensory existence. I believe this eclipse/Full Moon is asking us to honor that feeling by realizing all that is offered to us in our every day existence in the material world will never be able to fill that emotional need for something more deeply satisfying inside. With Ceres square this eclipse, the reality is we are being forced to anyway as resources continue to dwindle, wallets get thinner, etc and with them the ability to satisfy this hunger with just hollow material pursuits is slowly being forcibly removed from us. So why not take that leap yourself now? Look to which houses this eclipse falls into in your chart and you will know the areas you need to focus that on. Any tight aspects from the eclipse to any of your planets/points will show who your allies and enemies are in this quest. With the Moon opposite Mercury, the time to make decisions is now! If you don't they will be made for you, which could end up being even more uncomfortable. Mars sextile Ceres will give you the opportunity to take action now on this issue - don't let it pass by or it becomes valueless!
Mercury is in the fast lane right now just speeding along on those wings right into Cancer on Thursday, where it will only spend two weeks. This is a time when the mind and our words can connect deeply with our emotional/heart side. This should help you express your deepest feelings and love toward those who are close to you, and give a deeper sense of caring for all. This is re-enforced with Mercury's trine to Neptune this same day, which can be absolutely inspiring spiritually and creatively. We are also more open to non-verbal forms of communication and can be quite sensitive/intuitive now. A great night to "listen" to the messages in your dreams.
Mercury aspects all five of the outermost planets within five days starting with the trine to Neptune above. On Friday, it sextiles Jupiter which can open up new ideas and opportunities for expansion via our connections with others. Sunday would be used best as a day of deep healing as Mercury opposes Pluto and trines Chiron. The opposition to Pluto shows we may be confronted by someone or some situation that requires a big decision that may throw off the plan for the day. It will give a chance to look deeply within and how we affect the others around us. The worst way to handle this would be to place blame on someone else and explode into a power struggle/battle over who's right and who's wrong. Instead, try to learn from the situation, as this will benefit both self and others. It's an ideal day to use words as a tool of healing, to get/give some kind of counseling, or do a serious inner assessment of your life now.

Astrological Winds for Week of 6/6/11
Monday is Regiomontanus' birthday, famous astronomer/astrologer, born in 1436. He developed one of the most used house systems that is very similiar to the currently popular Placidus house system. The Regiomontanus house system is still widely used by mundane astrologers (including myself) for event charts.

Monday and Tuesday are likely to act as a tandem see-saw of energy together this week. On Monday, the Sun semi-squares Jupiter, which will likely bring some surprising expansion to your week that is alternately unexpected, exciting, yet frustrating because it will overstimulate you and have you feeling like you need to do something without having all the facts/info straight first. Committing to something today will likely you put in a position of scrambling about how to actually achieve doing it, as it may be impossible to fit into your schedule on such late notice. So it's not the best day to jump to conclusions on any matter of importance - that would be best saved for Tuesday when Mercury trines Saturn and seperates the wheat from the chaffe. This will give you the ability to focus in on the details in a grounded and orderly fashion. Communications , information, decision-making will be more stable and clear. The mind will be on more serious matters, but not in a depressing way, just a more of a "down-to-business" attitude will prevail. Yet, you have a big heart and it's a good time to work for some charitible cause you identify with. This energy is backed up by Chiron going retrograde on the same day. This will give you time to reflect on how to build a bridge between these higher ideals for all and how to get your own personal healing out of it too. Venus enters Gemini on Thurday showing that the sociable summertime/vacation time of the year is beginning and you may meet many new people over the next several weeks. Most of these relationships may be superficial in nature or for informational purposes only, yet it's a great time to network widely and perhaps your net will catch some long term deeper relationships ultimately. This is a time to enjoy the "little things in life." Mars sesiquadrate to Pluto that same day will delay Venus' fun in Gemini for a day or two however, as this can cast some type of shadow over our actions this day. Some type of deadlocked power struggle may reach the point of ultimate frustration/blockage this day and may have you seething inside and ready for a battle. Astrological Winds for Week of 5/30/11
A New Moon/Solar Eclipse at 11* Gemini trine Saturn is the highlight of this week on Wednesday. There will be 3 eclipses during this eclipse season from June 1st to July 1st, so get ready for some big changes and developments. In Gemini, this New Moon/Solar Eclipse asks us to open our minds to new information/knowledge/points of view/experiences, so that we are open to change and altering our reality. Its trine to Saturn in Libra will bring stability and the ability to absorb and use the new knowledge we gain in measured, stable ways, and to collaborate willingly and harmoniously with others. This eclipse is Saros series #13, which normally brings some type of expansion, but also many problems/issues because of this expansion. This New Moon/Solar Eclipse asks us to go beyond our normal mind/thinking processes and allow in something new. Look in your chart to see what house it falls into to see what area of life will be most affected. Any planets that you have at 10-12* will likely be making an aspect to the eclipse too, and will be blending their energy into it and onto you.
The New Moon/Solar Eclipse energy is supported by Mercury's ingress into the sign it rules, Gemini, on Thursday. This is where the Trickster is most happy, able to show both sides of its nature simultaneously. The Gemini archetype searches the world for its missing half, collecting all kinds of information and knowledge along the way, and then has an innate desire to broadcast/communicate in some way all that it has learned. The irony is that the missing half is so close by, that the Trickster overlooks it in his search for something out in the world with the ultimate answer, when that answer lies within: that is the other half that he seeks. The other irony is the half that is looking externally for an answer is able to keep a positive, smiling face on to show the world, yet inside is the other half that perceives the shadowy parts of physical existence and struggles to come to terms with that side.

Normal thinking/logic does not work/apply today and there will be a great desire to escape the mundane world. Expect confusing communications or misunderstandings or deceptions of some kind. This is not a good day to make any kind of deals on, as there are things being hidden or held back. It's best to use this energy for imagination, spiritual pursuits, or just dreaming. Neptune's turn to retrograde is a very subtle shift where we internalize much of our spiritual pursuits. It will end up going back into Aquarius during this retrograde period that lasts until November 9th.

Astrological Winds for Week of 5/23/11
A quiet week of astrological weather.
On Monday, Venus catches up to Mars in Taurus, the sign she rules, but a sign Mars is weakened in. Thus, Venus/Taurus energy should be able to get the Warrior to slow down and smell the (fresh blooming) roses. Relationships will stabilize and romance/sexuality is in the air. This can also manifest as highly creative/artistic energy. Even if this does not mean romance in your life, social times should be stimulated/fun-filled now.
The Sun sextiles Uranus on Tuesday: opportunities to put your unique, fresh, cutting-edge ideas into creative action/drive are highly favored under this transit. You will have to stimulate the action, so don't sit around waiting for it to happen - make it happen, or chances could pass you by. Some interesting/offbeat events/encounters could occur to stimulate your mind and day. The mind is sharp and clear and intuitive. A good day to do something different from the norm.
Mercury/Venus/Mars all quincunx Saturn this week, showing that our desires may be out of step with the duties and responsibilities we have - they will feel like they are dragging you down/keeping you from what you really want to do. It's too much going on at one time in order to process everything around us, which can whip us up into a frenzy of nervous energy, and cause lots of little mistakes that can build up into an irritating pitch that has us shoot off words out of our mouths without much thought behind them and build up tension with others from our crassness/tactlessness.
Saturday the Sun is quincunx Pluto: this is a time to seriously assess all we've been through lately and to let go of much of what is causing us pain. Clear the clutter out of your life both literally and figuratively now. It's as if your higher self knows what the answer is but the obsessed ego is struggling against letting go even though it's likely the best thing for you and others. This can create quite a deep inner conversation with yourself. The danger is projecting this shadow out onto others or the world and having some negative reactions to it that can get quite intense. Stay away from dangerous places and people if you are struggling internally, as you will attract them to you if you are not fully aware.
Sunday Mercury sesiquadrates Pluto and whatever came up on Saturday from Sun/Pluto can become an immense mental blockage as you can obsess over something you have no power to change now. Not a good day for those with OCD. Best to use this energy to do your own deep psycological analysis on yourself, or you may find yourself in endless power struggles/arguments/mental warfare with others.

Mercury's semi-square to Uranus on Friday can be very irritating to the mind. It's too much going on at one time in order to process everything around us, which can whip us up into a frenzy of nervous energy, and cause lots of little mistakes that can build up into an irritating pitch that has us shoot off words out of our mouths without much thought behind them and build up tension with others from our crassness/tactlessness.
Saturday the Sun is quincunx Pluto: this is a time to seriously assess all we've been through lately and to let go of much of what is causing us pain. Clear the clutter out of your life both literally and figuratively now. It's as if your higher self knows what the answer is but the obsessed ego is struggling against letting go even though it's likely the best thing for you and others. This can create quite a deep inner conversation with yourself. The danger is projecting this shadow out onto others or the world and having some negative reactions to it that can get quite intense. Stay away from dangerous places and people if you are struggling internally, as you will attract them to you if you are not fully aware.
Sunday Mercury sesiquadrates Pluto and whatever came up on Saturday from Sun/Pluto can become an immense mental blockage as you can obsess over something you have no power to change now. Not a good day for those with OCD. Best to use this energy to do your own deep psycological analysis on yourself, or you may find yourself in endless power struggles/arguments/mental warfare with others.

Astrological Winds for Week of 5/16/11
Mercury and Venus continue to travel hand in hand across the heavens this week in Taurus - they have passed Jupiter and are on their way to conjoining Mars in the sign of the Bull. On Monday, they make their exact conjunction in Taurus continuing the energy of last week (see last week's blog for more details on these 2 together now). Relationships and socializing will continue to take on a mental/intellectual tone mainly, but now the inspiring ideas shared last week should be able to gain some solidity/a foothold in physical reality. This is a great time to clear the air in relationships and find stability within them, especially with both of them sextile Neptune today. This offers the opportunity to combine higher and lower forms of love into compassion and empathy for others. Spiritual/metaphysical/artistic conversations are favored, and intuition/imagination is sharpened/concise, and you may receive some hoped for wish today/this week. You may even get a sense of what others are thinking/feeling before they even express it. Romance and pleasant surroundings are also possible too. The lesson is we may have to give up some of our creature comforts in order to have more emotional stability/happiness. We fear giving up some of the things we are used to will cause us great discomfort, but the imagined pain of "what will I do?" may actually be worse then reality if we are willing to give it a try, plus it will likely open up unseen doors that can be quite fulfilling ultimately. On a Collective level, the distribution of resources will be highlighted in its current imbalance and the pain that it is bringing to many these days - a sense that something's got to give. Astrological Winds for Week of 5/9/11
Mercury and Venus are in lockstep together this week like two partners on the dance floor. Mercury is still moving a little slower than normal, about 1* per day now, thus traveling at same speed as Venus. On Monday, they are exactly conjunct in Aries. When these two get together, it usually means our social lives/relationships become very intellectual/mental in nature. Indeed, life should be extra chatty/gossipy this week, and many of us will have inspiring ideas that we need to commincate in some way. However, these ideas are likely to be highly subjective/egotistical in nature. Agreement with them from others may not be the case, and all these words can end up in heated disagreements/arguments. For those in close realtionships, this is a good week to clear the air in assertive ways, but if it becomes aggressive expect a defensive reaction. Emotions can be put into words more easily this week, so if you are feeling inspired by someone/something, be sure to express it. This is a good week to tell someone how you really feel about them, if you've been holding back in some way. You may be surprised by the response you get: it could either propel the relationship to new levels, or create an awkward "oops, I overshot the mark" moment. This is a good aspect to hammer out business agreements under also.

This is a Big Picture aspect that does not have time for details and discipline, so be aware that your ideas now can be tripped up/slowed down later by the overlooking of certain factors. People will be optimistic/friendly/extroverted/more tolerant, etc this week.

Astrological Winds for Week of 5/2/11; First Look at Bin-Laden Death Chart
After today (Monday), it's a very quiet week astrologically. Monday is the New Moon in Taurus, a day after Beltane/Mayday, the halfway point between the equinox and the solstice. This was traditionally a holiday to celebrate the joy of life after surviving the winter/season of scarcity. It is named after the goddess, Maya, who tempts us with all the pleasures of earthly life: very Taurean indeed, since this is the first Earth sign of the zodiac and celebrates the joy of being in a body on Earth and all the sensual pleasures we can enjoy here in physical existence. It acknowledges the mystical union of heaven and earth. The New Moon is in this similiar vain: it reminds us to connect with our bodies, the earth, to turn our ideas into form, and to take a step-by-step approach to life now. It is a time of practicality and methodology. The Sun/Moon quincunx Saturn shows a need to seperate ourselves from old outdated methods/approaches before we can move on: to seperate ourselves from what holds us back both physically and emotionally. The Moon's trine to Pluto shows that any effort made in this direction will be with the flow and that transformation can be had much easier now. It is also a time that as a race, we must collectively question our methods of obtaining and using resources. The issue with Taurus energy is always can one balance both emotional and material satisfaction? Do I have to sacrifice one to obtain the other?
